So, I’ve found a bunch of players to take part in my Mutant Future hexcrawl. I’ve yet to schedule the first session, but the aim is to create characters and run a short introductory crawl that throws the PCs out of their tribal community and into the radioactive wilderness. I’ll probably send them to investigate some nearby ruins in which they will find clues as to what other things are out there in the wider world, which will hopefully be enough to send them on a whirlwind adventure in the second session.
I’ve already started giving thought to mapping the setting and what sort of post-apocalyptic insanity I want to throw in there. I want there to be lots and lots of stuff in the world for the players to explore and while I don’t want to stock every single hex, players should expect to run into an adventure location in at least a few days’ travel if they just pick a random direction.
I’m also more and more convinced that I want to run this game, as I’ve been rolling a bunch of random characters in my spare time. My favorite thus far is a mutant plant with dermal poison sap (8d6 points of damage to anyone who comes into contact with the sap and fails a save), the ability to change shape and color to look like any other type of plant (or just meld into its surroundings) and the ability to communicate with any living creature within 30 feet telepathically, among other things.
Hey, you guys remember when I posted about wanting to run a Mutant Future hexcrawl and needed some help with it? Well, this one guy, twogeeksinapod, is totally awesome, and I’m going to be reblogging his reblog of my original post! After the cut you may find some of his awesome ideas for starting a post-apocalyptic hexcrawl as well as awesome ideas for cool stuff to run into in a post-apocalyptic hexcrawl!
lost-carcosa is also a pretty cool guy who helped me out with ideas for my post-apocalyptic hexcrawl. Thus, I’m reblogging their post as well. Provided that this becomes an actual thing (I’ve got one “Definitely maybe” from one potential player thus far) I will keep you guys posted on the delicious random character creation!
The local Con is in about two weeks and I know that I want to run some Labyrinth Lord and Mutant Future, but am really uninspired at the moment. For Mutant Future I was thinking a simple one-shot ruin exploration with the operative word being RANDOM ENCOUNTERS!
Thankfully, there are lots of starter adventures for Labyrinth Lord that would work as one-shots.
Okay, so I want to mix exhibit A (Realms of Crawling Chaos, a Lovecraftian Horror supplement for Labyrinth Lord) with exhibit B (Mutant Future, a post-apocalyptic science fantasy role-playing game made with the Labyrinth Lord system) to run a post-apocalyptic Lovecraftian horror fantasy game. The question is, how fucked are my players?
Lulu.com is having a special sale and you can get some cool stuff there for a lowered price.
I finally picked up the Labyrinth Lord Advanced Edition Companion and Mutant Future books I’ve been itching to get for a long time.
I’ve been running a Labyrinth Lord game for our university RPG club a couple of time now and it’s been a blast. The first session was a bit hectic because ten people showed up and running a game, even one as simple as Labyrinth Lord, for ten people is hard. Yesterday we only had five people and things went much more smoothly.
Last night I read some Mutant Future again. In case you don’t know, Mutant Future is a post-apocalyptic RPG based on the system of Labyrinth Lord. Think Gamma World if it was based on the B/X system. Anyway, since the two systems are almost entirely compatible, I really want to take some things from Mutant Future into our Labyrinth Lord campaign. Possibilities include:
Which of these options is, to you, the most appealing?
Mutant Future is an awesome game from Goblinoid Games, the makers of Labyrinth Lord. It’s basically what’d happen if you reimagined Gamma World through the mechanics of B/X.
