Mutants & Mazes
I’ve been running a Labyrinth Lord game for our university RPG club a couple of time now and it’s been a blast. The first session was a bit hectic because ten people showed up and running a game, even one as simple as Labyrinth Lord, for ten people is hard. Yesterday we only had five people and things went much more smoothly.
Last night I read some Mutant Future again. In case you...

onlydashes asked: It sounds like you enjoyed D&D next, but was there anything that you didn't enjoy about it? Any part of the system that quite didn't live up to your expectations?

D&D Next Playtest Materials
Okay, I have them and am willing to share my thoughts on them, as long as it falls under my agreement, so I won’t be able to copy any parts of the rules in full. If you have a question burning in your mind about it, drop me a PM.

D&D Next Playtest Package
Got my package working. It looks really good. There’s a lot of stuff to like in here.
Also, an idea arises: put the Slayer theme on top of a Wizard. Use attack spells. Deal damage with your attack spells all day every day!
As pointed out by a poster on RPG.net, “Slayer Wizard” sounds fucking metal.

Torn
It’s kinda hard to feel enthused about the D&D Next playtest beginning since only yesterday I received my Labyrinth Lord Referee Screen and have a Labyrinth Lord game to run on Sunday. I mean, I want to be excited about an entirely new game, but at the same time I have this totally awesome game that’s begging me to run it and I totally have the snazziest referee screen ever made...

It's Eerie
Some time ago, I reblogged one of the posts on Out of Context D&D which had the DM calling for a player to make a “dwarf check.”
Well, last night I ran a Labyrinth Lord game for my university RPG club and without any prompting on my part, the players of the dwarf and elf characters immediately started referring to their special detection abilities as dwarf and elf checks...

Of Things To Come
So, based on my recent post about boss fights, I should totally write my own set-piece boss fight for D&D. So, that’s what I’ll be doing. I won’t set myself a deadline, but watch this space. At some point or another I will write a system neutral set-piece boss encounter, ready to be plugged into whichever edition of D&D you prefer.
In other news, the first meeting of...

Boss Fights
You know what I really like in video games that I’d really like to steal for D&D? Set-piece boss-fights.
The thing is, none of the editions of D&D really do the kind of boss fights that I like justice. I like boss fights that are more than just hacking and slashing at the boss until their health bar is depleted: I like boss fights that are sort of like puzzles.
The closest thing to...
